Included below are the files for both the walking and running versions of the Lakeland Way.

Please note that the GPX files provided are routes plotted using Ordnance Survey mapping software, not recorded tracks from a GPS device. As a result, the mileage shown in the files will appear lower than the actual distance on foot. For example, the “full route” GPX file lists the Lakeland Way as 129 miles, whereas the true distance is closer to 144 miles.

Ascent figures can also vary significantly between platforms. Garmin and Ordnance Survey calculate elevation differently, so totals can differ by hundreds of feet on a typical Lake District walk. Because GPX files are interpreted differently by each app, publishing a single ascent figure could be misleading or even unsafe. Users should therefore be aware that both distance and ascent shown in these GPX files will vary depending on the software and settings used. All of this has been carefully considered when providing these files.

The “full route” GPX file includes a large number of waymarkers, which may cause issues when importing or uploading the file to some apps. If this happens, try importing the file into the desktop version of your mapping software. Another option, which is strongly recommended, is to import only the individual day files.
